What foods prevent or help treat cold/flu?

A common cold is an infection of the nose and throat usually caused by a virus and it is easily spread to others. Cold is often milder lasting up to a week but flu persists for 2 weeks and can lead to other ailments.

Foods that help prevent/relieve common cold/flu include:
*Dark chocolate

*Fermented foods such as pap  and probiotic yogurt
*Green leafy vegetables
*Pepper soup

*Avocado
*Cloves, onions, garlic, and ginger
*Honey

Mechanism of action of food against cold
The foods mentioned above have antioxidant properties that help to boost the immune system and reduce inflammation. This action prevents the body from catching flu/cold easily or relieves the body quickly of the flu/cold.

Foods to avoid when you have a flu
*Caffeinated beverages
